Illustration made for JV le mag's special issue, "Génération Zelda".
I grew up with Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time, so this was a nice one to work on. Instead of drawing Link or Zelda directly, I went with the sword in the stone, alone in a forest clearing. It's an image that shows up throughout the series, and it also plays on that older Excalibur idea: a legendary blade waiting in stone for someone worthy to come along.
The piece went through a rough pass, then a full black-and-white inking stage, then color last.
